This Maple Candied Bacon is spicy, savory, and sweet all in one bite. Not to mention it’s a breeze to make!

This maple candied bacon combines the rich sweetness of maple syrup with salty, umami miso, and a hint of spicy chili powder. While the flavor profile is complex, this recipe is actually incredibly easy to make. Each strip of bacon is brushed with a glaze that balances the caramel notes of maple with the umami richness of miso. The chili powder adds a perfect kick.

These bacon strips are amazing as a side at breakfast or brunch. You could even add them in crumbles to the tops of doughnuts, in pancakes, or even on a cheeseburger.

You can leave out the miso or chili powder, if you’re looking for a purely sweet candied bacon, but I highly recommend trying it with both! I use brown rice miso, which you can buy here. I have a ton of other recipes that use this miso, like my miso butter, miso maple roasted carrots, and miso roasted vegetables. There are so many ways to use miso to add flavor to your dishes!

How To Make Spicy Miso Maple Candied Bacon

Preheat the oven. Mix together the maple syrup, brown sugar, and the miso and chili powder (if you’re using the latter two). Mix it really well. The glaze will look similar to wet sand.

Cover a large baking sheet in foil, then place a cooling rack on top. Lay the bacon on the top of the rack, and then brush with the maple glaze. Flip each piece over, then brush the opposite side with glaze. Make sure the bacon is completely covered.

Bake in the oven for 18-25 minutes until the bacon is nice and crispy!

As soon as I saw this recipe posted on IG I knew I had to run to the store and get the ingredients immediately. I’m a huge fan of candied bacon and this one is SO tasty. I sprinkled it on top of a baked sweet potato and it was chef’s kiss!
